This latest decal
sheet from Max
Decals features four planes (5 paint schemes) from the 1940's including Aer
Lingus,
Guinea Airways, Irish Air Corps and RNZAF Air Sea Rescue.
| The first decal
option is a Lockheed Model 14 of Aer Lingus Airlines. There
are 2 paint options for this plane. You can do the pre-war in
overall natural metal finish with a winged Shamrocks on the side of the
nose.
Once war broke out this
plane was painted up in camo colours and large tricolours were added to
the side rear of the fuselage to help identify them. The underside
of this plane is in question due to the fact no colour photos exist, but
the choice of orange or natural metal or light grey seem the best choices.
Having an airliner done up
in camo would be quite interesting. I love the flying Shamrock
artwork. |

| The second decal
option is for a Lockheed Model 14 VH-ADY of Guinea Airways.
This is an ex-Aer Lingus plane that was sent to Australia in May 1940 just
before the Battle of Britain got into full swing. It has the same
camo as above, but new code letters. It appears the flying Shamrock
on the sides of the nose were scrapped off. |
|
| The third decal
option is a Lockheed Hudson Mk.1 of the Irish Air Corps No.91 in 1941.
This plane was operated by RAF Coastal Command and later used by the Irish
Air Corps starting in May 1941. It's camo is dark green and dark Earth
with black undersides. This plane was sold to Aer Lingus after the
war and later to a Belgium company before being scrapped in 1954. |
|
| This fourth decal option is for a RNZAF plane
circa 1948. This particular plane was used for ASR (Air Sea Rescue)
duties. The pitot tube was relocated on this plane to permit the
attachment of a lifeboat to the underside of this plane. |

In total there
are decals for 4 different planes and the option of 5 different paint
schemes from Air Liners to Air Sea Rescue schemes. This decal sheet has a
very good selection of possible paint schemes. The quality of the
decals is very clear and in register.....in other words....you will be quite
satisfied with the high quality of the decals. I would recommend this
decal sheet to anyone interested in airliners, Search and Rescue or the Super Electra /
Hudson.
Recommended kit is
the 1/48 Classic Airframes Hudson
I would like to
thanks Max
