The Fw-190D-9 is my
favourite Fw-190. To me this plane represents the perfection of the
Luftwaffe's piston engined fighters in WW2. I'm not saying it is the best
Luftwaffe fighter....only that to me this plane captures my attention the most.
This is a new decal
sheet from Cutting
Edge Modelworks. The sheet includes markings for 4 different
Fw-190D-9's. You also get stencils for one plane. You can build all
4 planes if you use kit stencils.
The first plane is
Red 3 Fw-190D-9 with II./JG 6 that was discovered by the 7th Armored
Division in Halle 1945. This plane originally had the number 7 on it's
fuselage and that was overpainted in RLM 02 and the Red 3 was applied. The
Red 3 might also be Black 3, so they have included this number in both colours
(it is always difficult understanding colours in vintage black and white
photos).
The
second plane is Yellow 4 Fw-190D-9 with III./JG 54 from mid
1944. This planeincludes a 4
leaf clover artwork on the fuselage by the cockpit plus a white prop
spinner decal.
The third plane
is Blue 9 Fw-190D-9 with II./JG 6 which was discovered by the
69 Infantry Division in Halle in 1945. This plane includes a white
prop spinner decal.
The fourth
plane is White 11 Fw-190D-9 with 13/JG 51 flown by
Oberfeldwedel Heinz Marquardt in Germany in April 1945. This plane
has some baremetal panels and a "patchwork quit" paint scheme
due to mismatch painting of major components prior to final
assembly. A very nice product
and well recommended.
I would like to
thank Cutting Edge
Modelworks for providing me with this review sample.
