This is my bubbletop Jug. It depicts a bird from 527th fighter squadron, 86th fighter group, 15th air force, based in Pisa, Italy in October 1944.

This P-47D-25 served as a ground tac. fighter against Kesslering's retreating forces in Italy and flew escort missions deep into Germany & Romania.

Its squadron was awarded two distinguished unit citations during WW2.

The Academy kit is a good one (ok, don't look at Tamiya's one...) except for the decals that are awful, the white prints are too much translucent.  I only used the little ones. I painted the red & white stripes on the tail and replaced the stars with Aeromaster ones (ref 72015 US insignia stars & bars) which are perfect.

The kit builds very well, I enhanced it with Eduard photo-etched parts (ref 72281), with an Aires Pratt & Witney R-2800 early version engine (ref 7016) and with some little scratchbuilding.

There is no weathering except for a brown juice, I wanted a clean colored aircraft.

Oh, I forgot the Squadron vacuformed canopy which was my 1st attempt at vacuformed parts (should have sanded the edges a little more...).

This is a recommended kit for those who want to use aftermarket decals. It's cheaper than Tamiya's one and is still a good kit which doesn't need too much work.
