1/48 Italeri Mirage 2000C

Hi everyone,

This is my Italeri Mirage 2000C in French Air Force markings. This kit caught my eye a while back because of it's striking paint scheme and I just had to have one on my display shelf!

So what's the kit like? By Italeri's standard it is pretty good, nicely recessed details on the exterior and the fit of parts is "OK". The cockpit however is devoid of detail so to rectify this, I added the Eduard PE set, which definitely improves the look of the finished model.

For painting, I used my usual Humbrol enamels-in this case intermediate blue over compass grey, both colours lightened with a few drops of white. Lower surfaces were painted light camouflage grey. To highlight the panel lines, I used a pencil sharpened to a fine point and left just a little exhaust weathering below the tailfin, as for the most of the time these jets are kept clean.

In all, I was quite pleased with this project and enjoyed building something a little different for a change-in fact, I'm planning on doing one in desert camo in the future. A nice easy to work with kit and an enjoyable build. I'd certainly recommend it to others.

Happy modelling!

Darren
